What happened
An 84-year-old in Hampton was being targeted hard: calls from “Centrelink”, fake parcel-delivery texts, and a call from someone pretending to be her grandson in trouble. She believed every single one.
What we did
- Set up a landline filter so only approved numbers get through
- Configured her mobile the same way
- A gentle but firm run-through with her and her grandchild of three rules: don't press 1, don't give your card number, don't let anyone remote in
- A laminated card on the fridge with the real numbers for Centrelink, her bank and Micropls
The outcome
The calls no longer get through, and she has the real numbers to hand.
“It's working.”
The lesson
Simple rules on the fridge, plus filtering of unknown callers, protect older relatives better than any app alone.
