Scam texts pretending to be from toll roads or Australia Post are everywhere. Here's how to tell, and what to do.

Why these texts work

They ask for a small amount, like $3.95, and threaten a bigger fine if you don't pay fast. Small amounts feel harmless and the deadline stops you checking. The real goal is your card details.

Warning signs

  • A link to pay, especially one ending in .top, .xyz, .info or with extra words like 'linkt-pay'
  • A short deadline: 'within 24 hours' or 'final notice'
  • It arrives from a random mobile number or email
  • It doesn't use your name or account number

What to do

  • Don't tap the link or reply
  • Log in to your toll or Australia Post account using the app or a bookmark you trust
  • Delete the message and report it to Scamwatch
  • If you already entered card details, call your bank straight away

Not sure? Paste the text into our free Scam Analyser for an instant check.
